Any feedback: International Correspondence School (ICS)ECept Education > Distance Education Q. Any folk out there has any feedback or experience to share about the courses offered by the International Correspondence School, especially the programming courses? A. By all accounts from folks here who have seen the ICS materials relating to computer technology or computer programming, the instructional materials are so out-of-date and incomplete as to be nearly worthless. You can check dejanews.com for further details. If you're interested in computer programming, you may want to look into either Grantham, which has gotten good reviews here, or consider doing something like a Thomas Edison degree in computer science, with a combination of coursework from Thomas Edison and other regionally accredited schools that have the courses you need and are interested in. Don't wast a dime of your hard earned money on ANYTHING from International Correspondence Schools. Their material is so outdated that it is totally useless. Their so called custome service is a joke. All they will do is fight with you on the telephone. International Correspondence Schools is the biggest rip off going in correspondence eduation!!!!!!! Anyway, I was wondering to what extent people here felt that a degree from a non-RA but DETC-accredited school might do the "black mark" thing. I'm not thinking in terms of "an accredited M.X.Y. is required for the job I'm interested in and I can get a DETC-approved M.X.Y.," a case in which I think the consensus would be to find an RA or GAAcrP-consistent degree, but more along the lines of "a DETC M.X.Y. might add something, but a routine check might find that it's not RA and I might be burned." We have already seen substantial evidence in this newsgroup regarding the lack of acceptance of DETC credits in transfer by Thomas Edison, et al. If one is pursuing a vocational field, a DETC degree may not hurt (but it may not help either). On the other hand, I find that even the vocational schools accredited by DETC conveniently omit disclosure of relevant job-related information - for example, paralegal programs neglecting to mention that many law firms require that their paralegals graduate from ABA-approved programs.
