Do you have to take driving test?

Q. I'm going to be moving back home to California in the next few months after years of living out of state. My current DL (Texas) was renewed in 2000 for six years (I have an excellent driving record--no tickets, no accidents). I know I'll be required to take the written test when I apply for my California license, but what about the driving test?
A. Probably not. I didn't have to take it; I'd never had a CA license before and my record wasn't exactly clean. They gave me a license and motorcycle endorsement with no road test.
