Teen Driving RulesECept Education > Driver Education Q. My 15 year old nephew was riding with a 16 year old friend and was in a serious auto accident. (From which he will recover- Than God). This got me thinking as I have a 14 year old daughter with an October birthday (which means she will turn 16 one month after her sophomore year) who is promising all her friends that she'll drive them to school! What are rules you use wuth teenage drivers? Can they drive at night? With other passengers? What rules do you set on who your teen can ride with? A. When I was in high school, I dated a boy whose mother was a teacher at our school. Her rules were: 1) Her son could not ride in any car driven by anyone younger than 17 years old and the driver had to had their driver's license at least one year. 2) No driving after 10 pm 3) She had to approve of the driver. She probably also had a passenger limit, but I don't know. My parents delayed my driving until I was 17 years old (the driving age at that time was 16). I could not take any passengers they did not know and I was limited to one passenger in the front seat and two passengers in the backseat. I could not be a passenger in a car driven by someone they did not know and they had to approve of all drivers. Lastly, the car I drove was my parents' car, not my car. They could withhold driving privileges at any time (and they did). This means I had to have a good reason to use the car - e.g., going from school to my part-time job and pick up my father at work, drive my mother to the grocery store.
