Texas Motorcycle License ... driving testECept Education > Driver Education Q. I passed the written portion of the motorcycle driving test tonight and just have the driving part to deal with now. I do know about the $180 class that will allow me to skip the driving portion but would prefer to not spend that much as I just dropped $$ on my bike. Can you all give me any pointers on things to practice for the driving portion? It's going to be a pain to get a driver, a car and the bike to the DMV for the test during work hours so I'd like to make sure I pass the test on the first try. A. I took my riding partner to the Lewisville DMV when he took his "driving portion" of the motorcycle test several years ago. The first thing the examiner does is make sure that both the motorcycle that you are going to take the test on and the vehicle that your "follower and examiner" will be riding in is up to date with current licence and inspection. After that, the examiner will explain to you that he will be following you in your car riding along with whomever you brought to drive the car that will follow. He will instruct the driver to honk one time for a left turn and two times for a right turn. ( I may have that backwards but it will be honking that will signal the turns.) He will also instruct you that if bike and car gets seperated then the examination gets terminated. I'm not sure why they are so strict with this but my friend almost failed immediately when he proceeded through a yellow light and I almost stopped rather than run a red light. The evaluator told me that I better go through the light and I did and we continued the test. The main thing the evaluator will be looking for is good motorcycle control and will be watching that you are making good head movements looking for traffic. You might want to exaggerate your head movements while taking the test. I think it lasted about 20 minutes and was longer than I had anticipated. Other than almost failing because of the original yellow light everything else went well and my friend passed his test. Good luck with yours
