Education Q&A

where do i go to learn current methods of ball drilling and measuring a bowlers hand for proper drilling?

ECept Education > Online Course

Q. I have been bowling for 24 years....."since I was 6" i average close to 200 , have been through two of Dick Ritgers schools , and have tried to stay on the cutting edge of bowling technology for the past five years or so regarding equipment "3 or 4 balls a year". I bowl in an eight lane house in michigan with no acting pro shop , but have drilled and re drilled a couple of my own balls in the past because no one at the lanes was capable. Im interested in learning to drill balls for myself and others in our house and possibly opening a "pro shop" eventually.my questions are;...... 1. where do i go to learn current methods of ball drilling and measuring a bowlers hand for proper drilling? 2. Does anyone still offer "seconds" or rejected balls for me to practice on?

A. -There are two main places to look into. One is the IBPSIA hands on course...go to the IBPSIA Home page at http://www.ibpsia.com/ there will be information about the course. IBPSIA, the International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association offers training of all sorts. Second is to contact Mike Riggins who writes a bowling column for Bowlers Journal International. He offers training courses from time to time. -Since you like me seem to have no need of income I'd suggest you find a place that does good work and learn from them. I did and found that delivering newspapers pays better than drilling bowling balls so I am a Paper Boy. Still drill alll my own balls and a few for select friends but no others.
