Lucas Oil Products? Anybody know?ECept Education > Online Course Q. Saw an ad today for Lucas Oil Products' oil additive (I can't remember the exact name of the product), but it sells for around 7 bucks a quart and is supposed to constitute 20% of your car's oil... the greater purpose being to reduce consumption, smoking, etc. I am leery of oil additives in general, but was so tempted to cut down on smoke that I ALMOST bought a quart... does anyone have any thoughts on this sort of thing? The guy assured me that it was okay for diesel... but I think he might have been pushing for a sale... would it be detrimental, for any reason? A. When a gas engine smokes it is because lubrication oil is leaking past the rings or valve seals into the cylinders and being burned. An oil additive could in theory help this by reducing the leakage. When a diesel smokes it is because the fuel (oil, of course) is not being burned efficiently, not because of leakage. I do not see how an oil additive could help.
