Why Get an Education?ECept Education > Driver Education Q. If cement truck drivers, longshoremen, bus drivers can make the money they can make in Honolulu, what incentive does a child have to go through the expense and pain of going to college? A. It prepares them for a life on the Mainland? When they can't get a job as a truck driver, longshoreman or bus driver? Or as a clerk in the District Court? I went in to the district court the other day to pay a traffic fine. Misteak. Waited in line for 90 minutes. The staff at the counter were in no hurry. It was ... quite the wake-up call as to what happens when The Union is sufficiently powerful. The will to actually "Work" seems to completely disappear. The stats: When I arrived, the sign said, "Now Serving: 49", and I got ticket number 75. During the wait there, about half the numbers called were no-shows. So that means it took 90 minutes for ~4 people to serve 10 people. I handed the paperwork to one gentleman to see if I needed to be in that line, and it took him a minute or two reading it to figure out the answer was yes. When my turn was called, I interacted with the lady who was helping me pay the fine for a few seconds, and the rest of the time, she was walking around the office doing stuff that seemed to be related to my task, but ... if so, was horribly inefficiently laid out. She had a computer in front of her, but all the work seemed to be related to pieces of paper at different corners of the office, and in at least one instance, on a different floor.
