Q. what can I do with a law degree? This is what my eldest daughter asked me tonight?

A. You can do lots of things with a law degree - Defendants have made a number of (interesting but probably anatomically impossible) suggestions to me over the years :-) Oh I don't know. one particular spineless solicitor in the Prenton area of Birkenhead could quite easily manage it I'm sure (and then still make a mess of the small print :-) It's a perfectly respectable academic degree qualification - you can go on to one of various graduate jobs e.g. accountant, retail manager, merchant banker, marketing manager etc. There are a large number of graduate jobs which do not require any particular specialism at degree level - including law. Has your eldest daughter just finished, or is she contemplating? Tell her to join the Labour Party where the lumpenproletariat thinks that anyone with a degree gives it prestige. She, being female and professional, will then be selected for Parliament. If she is black and lesbian so much the better. Once in Parliament she will be able to make enough money on the side to retire before she is thirty. To prepare for this she should open a numbered bank account in the Seychelles. No lawyer can affaord to be honest.
